The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
Serve as subject matter expert to ensure compliance with applicable standards of infection prevention and control and to meet Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements.
Perform surveillance for healthcare-associated infections in accordance with current CDC standards and monitor other command performance improvement activities pertaining to infection prevention and control.
Conduct epidemiological investigations and devises control measures to contain or eliminate outbreaks.
Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to identify, assess and mitigate infection risks.
Design and conduct in-service training programs, both formal and informal, for staff, patients and families.
Relocation expenses may be authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations and available command funding.

Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector OR possess at least three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education or have completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in nursing or a closely related field, which has equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position OR have the equivalent combinations of education and experience described above that when combined equate to 100 percent of the requirement. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience with individualized application of microbiology, nursing and performance improvement in the fields of infection prevention & control and hospital epidemiology;
Experience collecting, evaluating, and analyzing infection prevention & control data for investigation to implement control measures to eliminate outbreaks or epidemics;
Experience developing and ensuring infection prevention & control policies and guidelines in various areas of the medical facility to provide safe and appropriate nursing care;
Experience in conducting surveillance for healthcare-associated infections in accordance with CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
