The Medicine Division at the VA Medical Center, Salisbury NC is seeking a physician with training, interest, and expertise in Hospital Medicine to function as Section Chief of the Hospitalist Section. The ideal candidate?,may be board certified/eligible in Family Practice or Internal Medicine.
The physician specialist is to join a multidisciplinary medicine program providing complex inpatient and outpatient services. Applicants should have leadership skills and motivation to provide oversight of administrative operations, clinical care, and teaching with responsibilities that include the supervision of trainees.
The Section Chief of the Hospitalist section has a broad range of authority with the responsibility for setting the direction of the inpatient medical programs, direction and supervision of the hospitalist staff, maintaining professional standards, maintaining quality control standards, and participating in provider patient care and consultation. The incumbent serves as clinical authority for professional, licensed, and certified hospitalist staff. The incumbent must demonstrate skills in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives including ensuring that high quality care is provided consistently on the inpatient unit and ICU.
The incumbent will also be responsible for developing, monitoring, and implementing clinical practice standards, policies and procedures for hospitalist and oversight of the quality assurance process. The Section Chief of Hospitalist Section will report to the Associate Chief of Staff for Medicine.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1st Shift 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
