The Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital in Tyler, Texas, has an exciting opportunity for a Perioperative Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to function in the roles of assistant, circulator and scrub in our brand new, state-of-the-art CVOR specializing in minimally invasive procedures. As a Perioperative RNFA, you must be able to collaborate with other healthcare team members to develop, coordinate and implement a perioperative plan of care unique to each individual patient's needs. The role of the intraoperative RNFA includes working interdependently with the surgeon, as well as applying the knowledge, skill and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient. To be considered for this position, a candidate must have excellent knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative techniques specific to cardiothoracic procedures. This applicant must also be able to work in collaboration with each surgeon on a variety of different case types. We are looking for someone who is energetic, is a great team player and takes the initiative to seek out new challenges. The preferred candidate for this position will be a professional leader within the department and will be expected to uphold the high standards already established.
Provide exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging techniques. Must be able to handle and dissect tissue, clamp blood vessels, coagulate bleeding points, ligate vessels, and perform other procedures in collaboration with the surgeon. Be able to suture muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin. Will also place drains and assist with cannulation and decannulation, as indicated."
Our Surgeons expectation of the FA is that they will be able to suture the leg incisions appropriately and without assistance. They do not need to be able to do Endoscopic Vein Harvesting. They must be able to assist the surgeons at the chest doing all of the elements listed above.
