The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) provides leadership and supervision in the management of nursing practice and operations on the Med Surg, Swing Bed, ICU, Family Birth Center, Case Management and Cardio Pulmonary Services. This includes, but is not limited to, the 24/7 management of: nursing practice, staff recruitment, retention, supply chain and budget, staffing, employee performance evaluation, quality improvement, staff education, medical records documentation, internal and external regulatory and survey requirements. The managers and coordinators for the departments listed above will directly report to the ADON.
In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing will be responsible for overall operations of nursing and patient services for the following departments: Acute Care, Mother/Newborn, ED and Surgical Services. In addition, the oversight of staff involved in Infection Prevention, Case Management, Emergency Preparedness, Trauma Program, Nurse Informatics Specialist, and Education Coordination.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
Coordinates the activities of managed departments with other departments; promotes and maintains harmonious relationships between managed departments, other departments, and Medical Staff in order to maintain an optimum level of patient care.
Attends assigned meetings, committee meetings, professional conferences, and maintains professional membership.
Maintains records and reports pertinent to areas of responsibility.
Ensures quality delivery of hospital nursing and nursing support services.
Participates in community activities as a representative of Livingston HealthCare.
Develops, maintains and implements nursing policies and procedures that conform to current standards of nursing practice, facility philosophy and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Collaborates with physicians, other clinicians, community agencies and organizations to improve the quality of services and to resolve identified problems.
Promotes customer service and responds to and adequately resolves complaints or concerns from patients or families about nursing or clinical care.
Coordinates and/or develops ongoing quality improvement activities for nursing services to monitor nursing compliance with standards and regulatory requirements through rounding, interview and documentation review. Demonstrates knowledge and application of CMS clinical quality and HCAHPS indicators.
Responsible for auditing and approving time cards. Establishes standards for clinical and fiscal evaluation of supplies and capital purchases for departments.
Coordinates with other departments to standardize practices, processes and equipment.
Mentors and coach staff and leaders throughout the organization.
Serves on committees, engages in leadership evaluation and participates in leadership interviews.
Identifies opportunities for service line growth, Leads initiatives to enhance revenue.
Assists in the development of the operational and capital budget. Proactively provides daily operational resource management including staff, supplies, and equipment and ensures optimal productivity for the department.
Exemplifies the organizations ‘Standards of Excellence’.
Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.
Completes all annual required educational competencies.
Maintain certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS.
Current active in good standing Montana RN license.
ACLS, PALS, BLS certification, or able to achieve within one year of hire.
Experience in nursing management.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
Master’s in Nursing Degree.
Five years nurse management experience.
