We are seeking a Media and Public Relations Manager.
Reporting to the Enterprise Director of Public Relations, this position leads the development and implementation strategic communications initiatives in Florida which enhance and protect the reputation of the organization and its Associates. This individual must quickly develop an extensive understanding of Nemours’ existing and new strategic priorities and use creativity, knowledge of communications tactics and strong internal and external relationships to drive organizational goals
Utilize a keen sense of what ‘makes’ a story for a wide variety news organizations and a deep understanding of the elements needed to secure the interest of journalists in order to turn strategic priorities into successful communications campaigns.
Display a high degree of comfort in pitching story ideas on complex topics and coordinating with news organizations to produce the best possible coverage. Serve as an organization spokesperson when necessary.
Proactively identify issues that may impact the organization’s reputation and develop and execute communications plans to mitigate situation.
Serve as the public information officer on the hospital incident command team, providing quick external communication counsel to Nemours leaders.
Master new and existing social media channels and lead the creation of engaging digital content which drives awareness of Nemours; Use social media analytics to regularly refine strategic approach in coordination with social media manager.
Create a variety of communications products including video news releases, press releases, fact sheets, talking points, award nominations, by-lined articles, opinion/editorials and speeches ensuring each includes timely, accurate information and key messages.
Develop strong relationships with Nemours leaders in order to stay consistently aware of strategies, achievements and developments.
Engage with external groups such as trade organizations and hospital partners and ensure Nemours is showcased appropriately in their communications efforts.
Manage a direct report, ensuring work is aligned with department goals, skills are developed and Associate is engaged in organization’s mission. Manage contractors including videographers and writers, ensuring work is within budget, scope and meets high standards.
A willingness to work non-traditional hours.
The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or English (M.B.A. or Master's degree in a relevant field preferred)
Ability to shoot and edit digital video and photos
Prior experience in healthcare
Relationships with Florida journalists
More than 5 years of experience
Understanding of Florida business and community organizations and leaders
Prefer candidates who are able to speak and write fluently in Spanish
Demonstrated success in developing and executing public relations campaigns which promote strategic priorities.
Development of digital content that performs strongly in social media.
Exceptional writing and communications skills
Comfort with working directly with journalists and senior leaders
