The Fairview Perioperative 101 Nurse Education program is learner centered and structured to provide specialized skills (circulate and scrub in cases) and knowledge in Perioperative nursing for a licensed RN. We use curriculum created by AORN and learning modules presented through lectures, demonstrations and videos. Learning is reinforced in the lab and clinical setting. The classroom didactic, hands-on lab experiences and clinical practicum take place at a Fairview location. The method of evaluation will include chapter post-tests, final examination, skill demonstrations and preceptor observation in the clinical setting. Provides continuing education contact hours after successful completion.
We are hiring for a Perioperative 101 RN, whom after training/education is complete will work at the University of Minnesota Medical Center -East Bank Operating Room. The East Bank campus in Minneapolis is part of the flagship location for University of Minnesota Health. The 21 bed Operating room serves adults, while averaging 60 surgical cases per day. Our specializations include; complex solid organ transplant, blood and marrow transplantation, heart disease, and cancer cases.Surgeries can include:
Classroom Education Location: University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview Minneapolis, MN or TBD
Date: Position begins end of July 2021 (estimate) and training/education will continue for approximately six (6) months.
Days/Hours: Training will take place Monday through Friday, hours will vary. This training program is full-time (80 hours per two-week pay period) for the duration of the program.
After completing the paid training periop 101 program (typically 3 months) the OR work schedule will then incluude call Hours rotation; typically every 4th weekend in addition to week day call hours based on department's needs. Call hours may include weeknight, weekends and holidays. There is a 30 minute call time requirement. Position offers competitive wages and is fully benefit eligible.
**The Periop 101 Nurse position requires a work commitment of 2 years.
The Operating RoomRN provides services as a circulating nurse and is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for the patient undergoing surgical procedures in the operating room. The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure, and professional practice guidelines.The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others (surgical technologist, nursing assistant, NST, aides, and hucs) as appropriate. Will be responsible for entering and updating information into our electronic medical records and to be able to use our Surgery scheduling system.
A current Minnesota RN license by start date.
Current BLS certification with American Heart Association or American Red Cross as a Health Care Provider required at the time of application.
Must have a strong desire/career goal to work as a RN in the Operating Room environment.
Current Fairview employees must have been in their current position for a minimum for 6 months and performance in previous/current Fairview jobs will be considered.
BSN, BAN, Masters degree in nursing or higher
Previous experience in acute care nursing RN, surgical tech/technologist or as a anesthesia aide.
Completion of a perioperative nursing course at a community or technical college.
