The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a 44-bed post-open heart recovery area and a cardiac intensive care unit. The department cares for over 2,000 cardiac surgery patients per year which ranks first in the state and third in the country. Our heart transplant program was the top program in volume in the Southeastern US in 2016. The program also includes care for patients with mechanical circulatory devices.
Our Silver Beacon Award status is evidence that we strive to achieve excellent patient outcomes and an exceptional working environment. Our surgeons and critical care team collaborate to create holistic care plans suited for each patient. Multidisciplinary rounds are led by our unit medical director and critical care intensivists. Our robust Nursing Governance Council actively participates in continuous quality improvement.
Serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America
