The Deputy Associate Director Patient Ambulatory Care Service provides direct supervision to multiple programs within the Office of the ADPCS, including: Nursing Clinical Practice, Nursing Clinical Services (Acute, Behavioral Health, Geriatrics & Extended Care and Outpatient settings), Recruitment and Credentialing, Nursing Education and Care Coordination/Home Tele-Health. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: 5-8 years of progressive nursing leadership experience. 5-8 years experience in Joint Commission Surveys and accreditation programs. 5-8 years documented evidence of working with colleagues and peers to bring about positive outcomes in clinical and administrative practice. 3-5 years demonstrated ability to synthesize complex data, develop strategic plans and writes major reports. Demonstrated strong administrative skills with documentation of successful follow through with established individual and service-wide goals. Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal skills, writing skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people. Demonstrated analytical ability to find viable solutions to complex problems utilizing data, logic and/or research methodology. 5 years experience successfully navigating human resource management, supervision, and staffing methodology to create personnel packages for new programs, manage multiple personnel, and maintain appropriate staffing levels. History of successfully implementing evidence-based standards of care and practice. Represents nursing on facility, VISN, and National Committees. Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or master's in a field related to nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) References that can validate the above. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse IV - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 4-5 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and appropriate basic or advanced certification desired, and approximately 3-4 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting, 45 lbs. and over, heavy carrying, 45 lbs. and over, straight pulling 1 hour, pushing 1 hour, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking 7 hours, standing 7 hours, kneeling .5 hours, repeated bending 7 hours, both legs required, operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, hearing without aid, mental and emotional stability, working with detergents and antiseptic solutions Environmental Factors: Outside and Inside, dust, working around machinery with moving parts, working with hands in water, working closely with others, protracted or irregular hours of work ["The Deputy ADPACS is responsible to the ADPCS for establishing, maintaining, and providing oversight for the delivery of nursing care and management of nursing personnel and clinical resources throughout the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System. The incumbent serves as the senior nurse executive in a centralized nursing service model within a complex multi-site health care system.
