The Outpatient Mental Health Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with the Nurse Manager, Chief Nurse of Mental Health and the Associate Director of Patient Care Services and is assigned to Outpatient Mental Health which includes five Mental Health CBOCs. to develop goals and objectives that support the strategic plan and meet the needs of Veterans that result in a positive clinical outcome. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. Preferred Experience: 2 years of Outpatient Mental Health Nursing Leadership MSN preferred Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The Assistant Nurse Manager and the Nurse Manager are a high functioning team, working cohesively to create a positive work environment which enhances care delivered by nurses within the outpatient mental health clinics. This includes delegating and coordinating workflow, supervision of subordinates, staffing the clinics and working with other Nurse Managers/Program Managers to identify solutions to improve access and patient engagement. Position is 60% administrative and 40% direct care. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager functions as a supervisor and assumes accountability for the operation of a designated area of practice. This includes the management, supervision, and evaluation of care delivered by nursing and other allied health care staff. As a registered nurse, the ANM demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise, leadership, and creative approaches to management of complex care. This RN applies skills necessary to coordinate and/or identify discipline-specific education, training in leadership, professional staff development, and emerging needs to all levels of staff. The ANM make sound fiscal decisions when requesting supplies, approving time off, and authorizing overtime in compliance with facility and hospital financial goals. The ANM is also responsible for coaching, mentoring, and supervising subordinate staff. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, creates a positive work environment which enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager (Outpatient Mental Health) performs activities including but not limited to support for: Works collaboratively with the team to ensure that all administrative functions are adequately covered. Are accountable for enforcing disciplinary actions if necessary and will maintain a collaborative and consultative partnership with Human Resources and the Union. Responsible for ensuring nursing staff and the environment of care are following Joint Commission and OIG regulations and directives. Expected to be involved in direct patient care when needed. This means when there are nursing shortages, the expectation is the ANM goes into staffing to support operations. Responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidenced-based nursing standards of practice. Serves as Acting Nurse Manager in the absence of the Nurse Manager and provides oversight for the administration of leave, counseling, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
